SysAdmin Day Australia Competition for 2015

On the 16th Annual System Administrator Appreciation Day, for our SysAdmin of the Year contest, we asked Aussie IT admins about what IT initiatives they have championed in the past year in order to improve end-user satisfaction. There were many good entries but alas only one can be crowned our SysAdmin of the Year... and this year our winner is Hal Douglas!

Thanks to our great supporters, Hal bagged himself a huge bundle of prizes, which included:

A recent mail upgrade was going to be more disruptive to the users than normal, we knew it but had no choice. Sometimes all the scripting in the world can't beat the human touch, so myself and my team opted to make ourselves super-available to users after the upgrade to fix anything from Outlook to BYOD. We warned people beforehand. After the cutover we walked the corridors, spoke at meetings and knocked on doors looking for users in need of help. It worked, we've since been thanked personally a number of times and so have our bosses.
